Fine Art in Buttercream: Coquette Style Cupcakes for Jan Wier’s Artist Reception
Collaborating with other local creatives is one of the true highlights of running an artisan studio. I recently had the honor of creating three distinct sets of custom cupcakes for celebrated artist Jan Wier’s reception at the historic Life’s Patina Mercantile & Cafe in Malvern, PA. Every single design was a direct buttercream interpretation modeled after Jan's original, richly textured oil paintings.
While each set was a beautiful study in color theory, my absolute favorite to craft was the set featuring lush, pink roses on a soft blue buttercream base. The contrast of the painterly pink blossoms against that specific muted blue background felt incredibly coquette, Marie Antoinette inspired, and editorial. For the other sets, I tackled the vibrant, sunny daffodils of her painting 'Mayfair' and the deep, rich purple textures of 'Violet's Big Day'.
Bringing fine art concepts into luxury desserts is a beautiful way to elevate a Main Line gallery opening, bridal shower, or private gathering into an immersive experience.
